Steve Jobs: 20 Life Lessons

My feelings about Steve Jobs have always been a little mixed. I long admired his entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen and was in sheer awe of his natural instincts for what appeals to consumers. On the other hand I bristled at what I saw as his — and by extension Apple’s — occasionally …

Blind Drivers Operate Car Using Robotics Technology
With a little help from technology, blind people can just do as fine as a normal human. A step towards achieving this goal, is placing the blind behind the wheels. Researchers in Virginia Tech have made this possible by using haptics. The technology that made this feat possible was developed by Dennis Hong, a professor at Virginia Tech. This technology has a viable scope in the areas of assistive motion, agumented reality, gaming, defence, and of course for house-hold. The days aren’t far when these technologies invade our home.

Scientists capture birth of new planet on camera, mother and child doing just fine
“Scientists have discovered a Jupiter-like gaseous planet that likely began forming some 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. Located about 450 light years from Earth, it’s also the youngest planet ever observed, having dethroned the previous record-holder, which was about five times older. According to scientisits, the LkCa 15 b is still being formed out of a circle of dust and gas (pictured above) surrounding a 2-million-year-old star.”

DREAM BIG !!
Robots for what-not !!
I have missed a lot of action in the field. Last few days in previous company were hectic. One lesson I learnt there is that an employee is put to full test in his last few days.
I have been catching upon the developments in Robotics and man-o-man, am amazed. A robot that scoops the poop, really? Guys at GRASP Lab have demonstrated why robotics should be explored more. Though a robot that scoops the poop priced at $ 400,00 might burn not a hole but the pocket, has indeed shown that 3D’s [Dull, Dirty, Dangerous] job has been taken care of.

Another interesting read that I came across is about robots walking in the malls and expos in UAE. Plans are underway to put robots in malls and expo halls instead of whoever does that job (I think that used to be the job of hot looking chicks, Arabs-haven’t they got some taste). Supplying the bots will be a Spain based company PAL Robotics. It’s said that the robots were put into extensive testing and plans are underway to open a manufacturing facility in UAE. Going by the specs in the website, I could say that it’s not that bad looking robot. In-fact it looks good, with a torso resembling a human and the base that of a omni-directional drive base. Sorry hot chicks at malls and expos, robots are just about to take away your jobs and send you home sobbing. May be clone your good looks to the bots before you leave :)
